Dan Koon (aka Joe Howard)

I joined the SO in 1977 and for much of my time I worked on technical posts either as a Qual auditor, Cramming Officer or in the LRH Technical Research and Compilations Unit as a tech compiler.

LRH was directly on the tech lines in the early days and we sent him taped sessions for his critiques on our TRs and auditor beingness, which was the subject of a lecture he gave us. The following year, LRH began making the technical training films and I played the lead role in the first tech film titled The Professional TR Course. The character's name was Joe Howard and that's how most Scientologists know me. That is the one remaining tech film personally directed by LRH. (Of course he did a lot more than directing since he was the only one who knew a thing about making films.) 
 
Half of my 27 years in the SO was spent in RTRC where I worked to comply with many LRH advices and orders to compile issues, checksheets, courses and other technical programs. These included: a TRs mission to Flag in 1979 to help LRH get students successfully through their TRs; the 1987 Academy Levels checksheets; Expanded Grades Process Checklists; Meter Drill books; 1988 Hubbard Dianetics Seminar and Hubbard Dianetics Auditor Course; Life Improvement Courses; 1989 re-release of Advanced Courses; Pro TR Course recompilation including TRs Clay Table Processing; 1991 re-release of the Tech Volumes (at which point all outstanding LRH orders to compile non-confidential issues were complied with); 1991 SHSBC checksheets; What Is Scientology? (rewritten with Danny Sherman, Trevor Meldal-Jonson and Mike Rinder); Super Power pilot project (first complete compilation of all the Super Power Rundowns); 1994 revision of Scientology Handbook (with Tom Ford and Bob Azevedo); recompilation of Scientology Dictionary (project yet to be completed); Golden Age of Tech (all technical aspects, not the administrative ones); rerelease of LRH books and lectures under the umbrella Golden Age of Knowledge.
 
I list this only to give an idea of the kinds of topics I can answer questions about if anyone is interested or what kinds of things you can expect me to blog about.  
 
When I left the SO at the very end of 2003 I began teaching myself to paint and have thus able to scratch a lifelong itch. I continue to do that today (it's an itch that doesn't seem to go away) as well as write for a living.
